Today it remains a vibrant and attractive rural community with its elegant Georgian market Square forming the focal point for its daily life and business. Walkers come from far and wide to sample Broughton’s charm, its variety of inns and to use it as a base to explore the drama of the Western Lakeland fells and valleys.
As you would expect in a lively, working town there are plenty of local amenities, independent shops, cafes, pubs, churches and a primary school. But don’t expect runaway progress in Broughton - its centre is strictly protected as a ‘conservation area’. The bustling and increasingly cosmopolitan maritime city of Barrow-in-Furness is just 15 miles south and has an array of shopping and leisure conveniences.
In its name Copper Rigg celebrates the town’s vital part in the copper industry. Ore mined from the Lakeland quarries was brought down through Broughton and onto the local railway. Today, near the site of the old station where the precious metal left, arrive some very precious new homes.
Copper Rigg consists of fifteen new homes in total - three elegant townhouses, two semi-detached houses and two rows of sensitively converted cottages.
Close to the lovely village centre these stylish new homes, with a choice of two or three bedrooms, offer a perfect Lakeland retreat, an ideal retirement option or even a home for young professionals who wish to live and work in the region. Designed and built by multi-award winning independent Cumbrian building firm Russell Armer Homes, Copper Rigg is an exceptional series of homes in an exceptional part of the world. |
